“Old Bishop Home”

This old pioneer home is in the Midway area near Park City, Utah. I was doing some plein air painting. It is a beautiful area with a new painting every where you look. I wasn’t sure at first, but I am finding that I love painting outdoors rather than from a photo. I realize that for larger paintings they need to be done in a studio, but the feelings, the sounds, the air, the smells and everything that happens in the open air affect the painting. My plein air paintings are better. I rarely paint larger than a 9 x 12 or a 11 x 14 at the largest outside and mostly I paint 6 x 8s. I love the small paintings and I can finish it quickly before the light changes to much. As I am writing this I am getting excited even though it is in the 90s already. They will have to be early morning paintings….I can live with that.

“Pink Persuasion”

I love shoes! There is no getting away from it. I have shoes in my closet that I haven’t worn for years, but I love them just the same. Over a period of YEARS I no longer can wear the size I used to when I was young and carefree,  but whenever I see a pair that is irresistible to me I can at least paint them and that is just plain fun. This particular pair was just waiting to be discovered and I just wanted to buy them for one of my five daughters, but alas, they also have their own shoe passions and I had to let them go, but paint them I could. Who wouldn’t want these. A little pink shoe just lifts your heart and makes the whole day sing.

“Ranunculus and Pansies”

It has already hit 97 degrees in the sun here in sunny St. George, but it has been such a cold dismal winter that it feels wonderful. I have been doing a lot of different types of painting in the past few weeks and taking a gesture drawing class. That has been very interesting and surprisingly hard. But once you get it, it makes everything with figure drawing so much easier. I have a new baby granddaughter named Lola Grace. She is extra dainty and has lots of dark hair and has the most heart rending little wimper when she is upset. So cute, but then I am her Grams. That has been occupying my thoughts and time and it gives a little lift to life. She is number 20 for us and we are expecting 21 in November. How great is that! I can’t help but brag a little..they make me happy and now I have to get back to normal life. And that is ok also. I added this spring painting which was done a while ago, but I love the colors.

“Gratitude”

This one was for a co-workder who was leaving and Steve’s office wanted him to have a remembrance of the travels he had taken. The women dress in such beautiful vibrant colors and their skin color is so rich that the contrast makes a great painting. The culture is so different that it makes the subject matter very interesting and fun to paint.

“Headed Home”

It has been so cold here. I know that compared to everyone else around the country we have it really good, but my blood has thinned and anything below 60 degrees is cold. I painted this little painting for my daughter Jensina. Her husband takes these wonderful snap shots, as I have mentioned before, and he allows me to paint them. I did fudge a bit though and dressed the little boy in the traditional dress of the men instead of the tee shirt and pants that he had on. I am grateful for the U.S. aid that goes out to people in need.
